Hat Factory Gets an Epic(?) Makeover

January 26, 2012

In random news today, the Hat Factory will be changing its name to Epic Theatre. According to HF’s Facebook page, the change of name is to “reflect the dynamic changes that have taken place over the last few months.”

As I’ve vented about before, I’ve given up all hope on this venue actually hosting good live music. The only things they have scheduled is some punk band in February, Lucero in April (this actually looks good), a Cornhole Tournament and a bunch of dance party nights. It seems Hat Factory (excuse, me “Epic”) is more in favor of making it a club (as evidenced by this interior designer’s work).

If this is the direction they want to go in, that’s fine. It just seems like they’re making it like every other club in that area.

New Free Music from the Cinnamon Band

January 26, 2012

The guys in the Cinnamon Band have a new project out called “12×12,” a free digital release of a different cover song each month this year. The first release is a cover of “The Hammond Song” by The Roches.

They’re also going to be releasing a 7″ of two original songs (Black Love and Tough Love) in April as well as working hard on a full length.

And they just confirmed a show on Feb. 18 at Strange Matter with Snowy Owls and Airstrip.

Finding Lost Satellites

January 25, 2012

The guys in The Lost Satellites have just released their second album, “The War Will End” and I have to say it’s a pretty damn impressive album.

This Southern rock Americana band does a real good job of bringing a party together on this collection of songs and it’s been on constant repeat since i first started listening. Check out the music below.

Lost Satellites – I Do Again

Lost Satellites – You Turn Me On

Lost Satellites – Shine

Lost Satellites – Blossom in Bloom

Goldrush to Play South By Southwest

January 25, 2012

Chances are, you’ve seen Goldrush (They have a new Facebook page. Like it!) rock out around town and have loved every moment. Now, the rest of the world will take notice. The band recently announced that they will be performing with hundreds of other up and coming bands at the South by Southwest Festival in Austin during March 13-18. I believe a roadtrip to Texas is in order.

Congrats go out to Prabir, Treesa, Matt and Gregg. You guys deserve it.

Goldrush – God

And “Tonight I’m Not Going Anywhere,” a new song I’m REALLY enjoying.

New Song from Hot Lava

January 24, 2012

I am beyond excited that Richmond pop rockers Hot Lava have returned from their breakup/hiatus to bring more fun music to the masses.

The following is a brand new video called “Goat’s Eyes” from the band’s upcoming new album “Ice Land” coming out some time in 2012.

Islands from the Future!

January 23, 2012

Have you listened to Future Islands? You haven’t? Stop reading this and click play on the track below to get a sense of just how incredible the group’s music is. I just started listening to last year’s “On the Water” and it’s definitely something to take in and appreciate. The music is ambient yet an upbeat dance party at the same time. I’m just wishing I had heard this album sooner.

Future Islands are playing at the Camel tonight with Ed Schrader’s Music Beat and Canary Oh Canary.
