I had a post ready to go on Mates of State playing at the Canal Club on Monday with Other Lives, Yawn and one of my favorite local bands Marionette. It was going to be an awesome show and I was eagerly looking forward to it.
Then, Mates of State canceled the show because they got a better offer. The band will now be playing the David Letterman show. I’m pretty disappointed that we will be missing out on an incredible performance.
I know I would probably do the same thing, but whenever an artist drops a set tour date (especially last minute), it always sends the message of “Screw [name of city], we’re playing somewhere better.” I get that Mates of State is trying to increase their presence and playing on Letterman is a big opportunity they can’t just pass up. They’ve already promised they will reschedule the date, so at least they’re not forgetting us entirely. Meanwhile, I will listening to these tracks instead of hearing them live.
