Well, this is sad. Bogart’s in the Fan is closing after the end of the year.
This news broke out a while ago, but it seemed to slip under the radar.
From Style Weekly:
It doesn’t come as a complete surprise that long-running Bogart’s in the Fan will close at the end of the month. Owner Jim Bacas listed the restaurant for sale in June and plans to retire.
Bogart’s was one of the city’s major live music venues for decades, but lost momentum when it moved from its Lombardy St. location (now Balliceaux) to its current address 1903 W. Cary St. It’s possible that another iteration of the business will develop, a manager says, but details are unconfirmed. Its last day is New Year’s Eve.
I always thought this was a great place for music. They were really trying to get the music part of the establishment up to par with the other venues in the city and they were getting some amazing groups to that space, most recently the Sounds of RVA Showcases.
The Bogart’s space will obviously be take over very soon (new restaurant announcement in 3…2…), so I can only hope that whatever happens to the space, there will still be some music aspect to it.
