GWAR Frontman Dave Brockie Found Dead in Home

brockie-oderusThe founder and lead singer of renowned metal band GWAR, Dave Brockie (aka Oderus Urungus) has died.

Police were called to Brockie’s residence in the 4800 block of West Seminary Avenue on Sunday evening and found Brockie deceased when they arrived. The Medical Examiner’s office will determine the cause of death, but police say they do not suspect foul play at this time.

The Grammy-nominated band, known for its elaborate costumes and offensive show antics, marked its 30th anniversary and performed for the first time in Japan this year. The band recently announced that it would hold its fifth Gwar-B-Q concert Aug. 16 at Hadad’s Water Park.

Richmond has lost one of its music icons and music will truly never be the same.
