On April 4 and 5, 20 buskers will take to the parking lot of VACLAA (VA Center for Latin American Arts) to vie for the coveted “Bill ‘Bojangles’ Robinson” Great Busk Award.
“Busking” refers to the art of street performing and The Great Busk Competition will be exploring of the popular art style. The Busker who works the crowd the hardest will receive the grand prize, which includes a half-day recording session at Sound of Music Studios.
Local artists Miramar, Lobo Marino, the Richmanian Ramblers and Professor Bless and the Dancing Madwoman will headline the event. Richmond area musician and dancer Jay Williams and local musician, poet, D.J. and art educator Mikemetic Kemetic will be exploring the musical roots of Bill “Bojangles” Robinson through an original composition.
