If you were wondering where to be this weekend, it’s most likely going to be Strange Matter. There’s a whole bunch of great shows coming up in the next few days.
So-Cal indie rock/post-punk outfit Seahaven are touring behind their excellent new album “Reverie Lagoon: Music For Escapism Only” and will be stopping at Strange Matter on Saturday, May 17.
Playing alongside them are St. Louis, Missouri quartet Foxing, who are releasing a freshly remixed and remastered version of their orchestral, personal debut full-length “The Albatross” on May 27. Watch the album trailer for “The Albatross” here.
On Sunday, May 18, Strange Matter will be hosting Chicago psychedelic band Verma, whose latest album “Sunrunner,” which finds them performing more dark ambient tunes than their previous work.
And finally, head back to Strange Matter on Monday, May 19 for Memphis’ Ex-Cult, one of the most exciting psych tinged proto-punk bands in the U.S. Their latest record “Midnight Passenger,” which is described as the result of a never ending obsession with the open road.
Ex-Cult’s Record Store Day single “Ties You Up” was recorded in Los Angeles by Ty Segall at his home studio in Glassell Park. The song is featured on “Midnight Passenger,” but this RSD version features Zumi Rosow of the K-Holes on Saxophone.
