Help GWARbar Become a Reality

After the passing of GWAR frontman Dave Brockie earlier this year, Richmond is all about honoring the band that put the city on the map.

The GWARbar will be a fun, unique restaurant in Jackson Ward that will “change the dining experience in much the same way that GWAR changed the concert going experience (well, maybe without quite as much mess).”

GWAR has joined forces with Travis Croxton, Richmond’s restauranteur of the year 2013, to create this new venture and Michael Derks – BalSac the Jaws ‘o Death – will be creating a menu and cocktail program. GWAR will also be contributing their talents to make each meal an adventure.

However, all this comes at a cost. They need Richmond’s help to transform the space into a bar worthy of the name GWAR.

They’ve launched an Indiegogo campaign to help raise money for kitchen renovations and equipment. They will be building a smoke house to create the world famous GWAR-B-Q and a GWAR-sized meat grinder to make creative new takes on hot dogs and hamburgers. Also in the works is a beer garden – a “beer GWARden” if you will – and an upper level outdoor deck overlooking Abner Clay Park.

The only limit on the awesomosity of this venue is our budget. That’s where you come in. The more money we raise, the cooler this restaurant will be! And you’ll be a part of it. Everytime you come in after work, or visit Richmond from whatever remote corner of the world you live in, you will have a place you can call your own, surrounded by the creative wierdos you love. You will know that you are a part of GWARbar just as GWAR will always be a part of you.

GWARbar will be opening this summer, but according to GWAR, its greatness depends entirely on people donating. “GWARbar could be a run of the mill dive bar, or it could be the fulfillment of your wildest culinary fantasy.”
