From noon to midnight on Sunday, March 1, Classical Revolution RVA will celebrate Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart by performing his music all over Carytown in various restaurants and shops. The Mozart Festival will include string quartets, arias, informal talks, fun activities for the whole family, and an evening performance with full orchestra and opera singers.
Here’s the lineup:
12-2pm: Eine Kleine Kaffee Musik: chamber music at 10 Italian Cafe and Alternatives Boutique.
The music at AlterNatives will take place behind the store in a heated tent, and there will be organic fair trade coffee and fresh donuts available.
1-3pm: Build an Instrument! A Relay Foods truck will be parked in the Dixie Donuts parking lot, equipped with everything the kids need to build a musical instrument out of food!
2-3pm: The Richmond Cello Orchestra at Babes of Carytown: cello duos, trios, and large ensemble, all playing arrangements of Mozart’s works. Presented by Four Strings.
2-3pm: Wolfgang 101 at Plan 9 Music: an informal talk by VCU’s Daniel Myssyk for those who want to learn a little more about the life and works of one of the greatest composers of all time. Presented by VCU Music
3-4pm: Papa Mozart’s Toy Symphony at Sweet Frog Carytown: a chance for the kids to try out their new edible instruments with a live string orchestra performing Leopold Mozart’s Toy Symphony, as well as a symphony by a very young Wolfie.
3-4pm: Operatic Scenes at Plan 9 Music: duets, trios, and other scenes from Mozart’s operas.
4-5pm: Requiem and Symphonies at Babes of Carytown: a full orchestra, complete with timpani, will perform selections from Mozart’s beloved Requiem, as well as the bassoon concerto and other symphonic works, conducted by Erin Freeman and Daniel Myssyk. Presented by the Richmond Symphony.
7-9pm: Mozart’s Greatest Hits at Can Can Brasserie: arias with full orchestral accompaniment, conducted by RSO’s assistant conductor, Keitaro Harada.
9-11pm: Rock Me Amadeus at Balliceaux: an after-party with Goldrush. (Note: this event is not in Carytown)
